Famous Waitomo Attractions

There are many operators that organise trips in Waitomo, from surprisingly gentle to absolutely exhilarating.
Black Water Rafting
Black water rafting takes place underground but it is not at all like white water rafting. It involves an inflated rubber inner tube, the kind you would normally find in a car tyre, as a flotation device to take you down river in the dark.
Participants are dressed in wet suits and fitted with inflated inner tubes, which both buffer wearers against sudden upsets on slippery rocks and also keeps them afloat when they go down rapids and over waterfalls in the dark. It’s an experience not to be missed and totally unique to New Zealand.
Waitomo Adventure Activities
Other fantastic activities in the caves are abseiling and rock climbing. Both are widely available in the Waitomo region and they are excellent choices for natural born adventurers. The feeling you get while abseiling through waterfalls underground or when you rappel 100 metres into the Lost World is hard to imagine.
